Reliable, Sustainable Data Storage is More  Valuable Than Ever

The rise of data-intensive apps and tech like ChatGPT, generative AI, and social media are driving massive increases in data volumes while businesses are relying more heavily on data to drive efficiencies, make strategic decisions, and identify new opportunities as quickly as possible. Primary storage remains a workhorse for mission-critical database workloads, application consolidation, virtualization and virtual desktop infrastructure, and to support hybrid cloud IT operations.

Sustainable data storage is more valuable to customers than ever, and how organizations consuming storage is also changing.

Gartner outlines its Strategic Planning Assumptions for Primary Storage:

  • By 2026, storage consumption-based platform SLA guarantees will replace over 50% of traditional on-premises IT capacity management, budgeting, assessment, sourcing and fulfillment activities, up from less than 10% in 2023.
  • By 2027, less than 30% of the IT storage infrastructure budget will be spent on hardware management and support IT skills, down from 85% in 2023.
  • By 2028, consumption-based storage as a service (STaaS) will replace over 35% of enterprise storage capital expenditures (capex), up from less than 10% in 2023.

"We believe that being recognized as a Leader in the 2023 Magic Quadrant report for Primary Storage is a testament to Hitachi Vantara’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge storage solutions,” said Gary Lyng, vice president, product and solutions, Hitachi Vantara in a press release. “We feel this recognition underscores our forward-thinking approach, including the ability to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire lifecycle of our systems, and our ability to integrate emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics to optimize data management. We believe that our consistent recognition in the Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage speaks to the reliability of our systems and data, and it reinforces our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability in the storage industry.”
