Hitachi Vantara Lands Top 1-2-3 Rankings for Energy-Efficient Data Storage

Three Hitachi Vantara data storage solutions placed first, second, and third in an evaluation by the US Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR rating system for energy-efficient data storage solutions.

Hitachi Vantara Lands Top 1-2-3 Rankings for Energy-Efficient Data Storage

This summer, Hitachi Vantara landed a Gold Medal from EcoVadis, the trusted global leader in business sustainability ratings. Now, the company landed an even more impressive win—one that focuses on carbon reduction and eco-friendly storage innovation.

In an unprecedented achievement, three of Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) solutions have taken first, second, and third place in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® rating system for energy-efficient data storage solutions.

Competing in the All NVSS Disk Online 4 Category, the VSP One and VSP solutions dominated the field, outperforming all major global vendors. The results, based on IOPS per Watt (IOPS/W), were noteworthy. Hitachi Vantara’s top-performing VSP One Block solution led the pack with an impressive 535 IOPS/W. Close behind were other two VSP solutions, scoring 411 and 368.86 IOPS/W. For comparison, the highest-rated model from any other vendor reached 330 IOPS/W, with the rest lagging further behind.

For those unfamiliar, IOPS stands for "input/output operations per second," measuring how many read/write operations a storage array can perform. IOPS per Watt (IOPS/W) is like miles per gallon for cars—the higher the number, the better the storage performance per unit of energy used, according to Octavian Tanase, Chief Product Officer at Hitachi Vantara, in a recent blog

The Greenest Data Storage

While the race toward a carbon-neutral future continues, Hitachi Vantara’s recent ENERGY STAR results highlight the company’s leadership in green storage infrastructure. Hitachi Vantara has announced that every new VSP model reduces carbon emissions by up to 40 percent, without sacrificing performance.

These latest ENERGY STAR ratings for its storage platforms build on the category-leading results and vision for sustainability outlined in the company’s first-ever Hitachi Vantara Sustainability Report, which was released earlier this year.

Starting the Energy-Efficient Journey

While solution providers have many options to help customers reduce their carbon footprint—renewables, electric vehicles, supply chain improvements—one of the fastest and most impactful steps is optimizing their data centers.

If your customers are looking to drive sustainability in their data center, the ENERGY STAR top-scoring solutions from Hitachi Vantara might be a good place to start.
