The amount of data that companies must manage keeps growing every year. Research group IDC predicts that by 2025, some 175 zettabytes of data will have been created worldwide.

All this data has to go somewhere. Organizations are struggling to keep up with the data explosion while at the same time keeping their data accessible and secure.

The challenges are real. Often, IT teams can’t perform a full backup of a large database without preventing employee access to data, or worse, impacting the performance of the business. IT teams must make a choice: Perform the backup and hurt productivity or, skip the backup and pray that nothing bad happens. Neither choice is acceptable.

It’s a similar situation for critical applications, where there’s no tolerance for downtime. Organizations want to improve data protection and disaster recovery performance, cut costs and mitigate risks with modern approaches.

The problem for many organizations: Traditional backups fall short. Tapes are unreliable, time-consuming and slow. Backup appliances are inflexible, have limited scale and high costs. Public cloud options can get very expensive and have the potential to expose company data to risk.

Reliable Data Protection for Your Customers

Companies need reliable protection designed for today’s ever-expanding data demands and threat landscape. With Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), managed service providers (MSPs) can leverage Hitachi Vantara’s ecosystem of more than 100 partners to help their customers store, secure, and protect their backup data at unlimited scale. HCP offers long- and short-term data retention at much lower cost. Backups and restores happen in minutes as opposed to hours.

HCP also operates as a software-defined, object storage solution, so MSPs can use their hardware of choice, with no vendor lock-in. With this on-premises solution, the customer remains in full control and can achieve savings of up to 67% versus a public cloud solution.

Hitachi Vantara HCP promises that MSP customers can do the following:

  • Reduce backup costs
  • Improve backup and restore performance
  • Satisfy data retention requirements
  • Secure data with durability, reliability and immutable storage
  • Scale out to meet the needs of the most demanding enterprise environments

So with data growing at alarming rates, line-of-business owners at your customers demanding aggressive service-level objectives, the threat landscape making data protection more important than ever, and IT budgets flat or declining, organizations need tools like HCP that can solve their data storage and protection challenges.

Large enterprises have been moving toward a more modern approach to solving these storage and data protection issues by using the snapshot and replication technologies embedded in their enterprise-class storage systems. However, these capabilities have not been available or affordable in many midrange storage systems used by MSP customers – but they are now.
