The Olympics in Paris may be over, but Hitachi Vantara is keeping the winning spirit of summer alive. The company has earned a very prestigious honor—a Gold Medal awarded by EcoVadis, the leading independent provider of business sustainability ratings. This recognition underscores its dedication to sustainable business practices and overall leadership in the IT sector.

The EcoVadis Gold Medal places Hitachi Vantara in the top 1 percent of companies within its category and the top 2 percent of all companies evaluated worldwide. This accomplishment is a testament to Hitachi Vantara’s commitment to environmental stewardship, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

How EcoVadis Determines Winners

EcoVadis is renowned for its rigorous assessments of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. Their evaluations cover 130K companies on 21 unique sustainability criteria across four core areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

Companies are evaluated based on policies, actions, and results, with a focus on transparency and continuous improvement.

Making a Positive Global Impact

For Hitachi Vantara, this recognition is more than just an award—it’s a validation of the global teams' efforts to "power good," according to Simon Ninan, Senior Vice President, Business Strategy, Hitachi Vantara.  He notes that the top scores in Labor & Human Rights, Sustainable Procurement, and Environmental practices reflect its ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

Earlier this year when the Hitachi Vantara Sustainability Report was released, CEO Sheila Rohra stated that at Hitachi Vantara, sustainability is not a buzzword and not a checkbox, but a feature, and a key pillar of the company strategy moving forward. She added that Hitachi Vantara frequently hears from its customers and partners that sustainability is increasingly important to how they do business. “For them, it is much more than a trend, it is a business priority,” says Rohra.

Ninan confirms the importance of sustainability as a priority at Hitachi Vantara, and how the EcoVadis rating and Gold Medal is important for the company. “We’re proud to set high standards and lead by example,” he says. “Hitachi Vantara intends to drive results for its partners through data infrastructure solutions that deliver both financial benefit as well as environmentally friendly outcomes.”
