Cooking Up Growth: La Molisana Uses Hitachi Vantara VSP One to Serve Secure and Sustainable Expansion

La Molisana worked with its IT partner EOSYS and Hitachi Vantara to modernize its data infrastructure to improve application performance, strengthen cyber resilience, and support sustainability targets before expanding into new markets.

Cooking Up Growth: La Molisana Uses Hitachi Vantara VSP One to Serve Secure and Sustainable Expansion

La Molisana, a leading pasta manufacturer in Italy, has been churning out pasta since 1912. The century-old company has more than 250 employees, produces over 40,000 packages of pasta per day, and generates revenues in excess of $300 million annually. La Molisana exports its premium products to more than 100 countries and has a five-year plan to develop new products and expand into emerging markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

To reach its business growth goals, La Molisana needed to update its data storage infrastructure The company searched for a modern solution that would improve performance, effectively eliminate costly downtime, and strengthen cyber resilience. The new data infrastructure also would have to integrate with La Molisana’s existing enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain, and corporate performance management (CPM) systems, and still allow the company to meet its sustainability objectives.

From Simmer to Perfection: Hitachi Vantara VSP One Block

Working with the IT and industrial systems integrator EOSYS, La Molisana analyzed its current workloads, projected data growth, and established security, performance, and capacity needs for the new data storage infrastructure. Together, they selected the Hitachi Vantara Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) One Block solution, which offers advanced data management, security, and integration capabilities. VSP One Block provides the performance, scalability, and energy efficiency required to support La Molisana’s business expansion.

La Molisana teamed with EOSYS and Hitachi Vantara to deploy the new resilient data infrastructure with no disruption to users. VSP One Block with NVMe flash supports growing data volumes, boosting speed and enhancing efficiency. Native integration between VSP One Block and Veeam backup and recovery software, along with Hitachi’s snapshot functionality, allows La Molisana to optimize data protection and ensure business continuity. The team also repurposed La Molisana’s older Hitachi Vantara storage to a second data center for backup.

Expedited Data Access Topped with Sustainability Gains

With the VSP One Block solution solidly in place, La Molisana can focus on expanding its business with confidence. The new data infrastructure has improved performance, reliability, and data protection. Storage response times are 2.5 times faster, and expedited data access and processing speeds have enhanced production, finance, and logistics processes.

VSP One uses Hitachi Vantara’s adaptive data reduction (ADR) capabilities, which brought data compression ratios to 5:1. Coupled with deduplication technology, La Molisana can store greater volumes of data in a smaller footprint, further reducing energy and space requirements. The new system has dropped energy consumption by more than 30 percent, aligning with La Molisana’s corporate sustainability goals.

The modernized data infrastructure improves performance, operational efficiency, and data protection and allows La Molisana to scale seamlessly as needed. With VSP One behind it, La Molisana can focus on expanding the business and respond to market challenges quickly, securely, and sustainably.
